The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a very famous Gothic novel by the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson. First published in 1886, it became a classic of literature. The novel is set in the dark and gloomy atmosphere of Victorian London and tells the story of a highly respectable scientist, Dr Jekyll, and his alter ego, the evil Mr Hyde, created by Dr Jekyll’s own experiments. Troughout the novel there is a sense of mystery and horror, capturing the reader’s interest and making them want to read on until the end.
